Enjoying the Out of Doors

This is an important part of the Guiding programme. It is easy to get outside for a few minutes in a meeting for a treasure hunt, skipping, star gazing, firelighting ...the list is endless!

Look at the badges! There is a great variety to encourage the enjoyment of the out of doors - Camper, Finding Your Way, Water Sports, Outdoor Cook, Survival and many more. These can also give you an idea for a meeting that could encourage a Brownie or Guide to complete a badge.

There are always safety implications with all activities for the girls, therefore there are qualifications to help you take your girls walking, boating or camping.

It is important that you check with the latest edition of the Guiding Manual to ensure that your activities meet with current Guiding practice.

Take your Unit Away!

All members of the movement from Rainbows to Senior Section can enjoy a residential experience!

The requirements for a Rainbow over night residential event are they must not exceed 24 hours including travelling time.

Brownie, Guide and Senior Section members can enjoy camps or holidays depending on their aspirations or geographical limitations.

In order to take your Unit away, you need:

You should obtain a copy of Training Opportunities (ref 6478) from Guiding Essentials. This is the basic work book which takes you through the necessary steps of running a residential event. You should also contact the BGIFC Outdoor Activity Adviser. She will help you to gain your licence and give your girls a safe and enjoyable holiday.
